| How Does It Work? |
|
X-Rays are directed on to the material that is being tested. X-Rays cause atoms to go into an excited, higher energy state. As the atoms relax to their normal state a characteristic radiation is emitted and it is this information that the XRF analyser uses to identify the elements present.
The XRF analyser compares the ratios of the elements detected to a library of known alloys.
XRF provides qualitative and quantitative data. |

| How long does it take to get a reading? |
|
XRF is quick! Typically, about 5 seconds will give an accurate result |

| Will XRF damage my product? |
|
No.
XRF is a non destructive process and it does not mark the materials being tested. |

|
Yes.
Although the XRF emits X-Rays it is handled by a trained technician who will ensure the safety of your staff and property. |

| What is the problem with Mill Certificates? |
|
We all know from experience that Mill Certificates are frequently illegible. Before a Mill Certificate reaches the end user the Mill Certificate will have passed through many hands and will often be illegible from repeated photocopying and faxing.
With XRF we can positively identify the materials present in your equipment. |

| Can XRF differentiate between 304 and 316 ss? |
|
Yes |

| Can XRF identify low carbon Stainless Steel Alloys? |
|
No.
316L is the low carbon version of 316 stainless steel. Both alloys are FDA acceptable for product contact. The only reason for having 316L is that it is easier to weld than 316. Both alloys have the same chemical resistance profile. Most 316 stainless steel supplied in Europe is in fact 316L. |

|
The XRF analyzer works by comparing the results it has obtained with the alloy libraries in its memory. The library includes:

The XRF spectrometer is highly portable. It only weighs 10kg |

| Do I get hard copy results? |
|
Yes. We can provide certificates to standard BS EN 10204 Part 3.1b. In addition we can provide the raw data in CSV format as well as the spectra. |

No. The cutting edge XRF analyzers that we use automatically compensate for different shapes and sizes of test materials |
